Gelliplate with Julie Ousley In-Person
What is a gelli plate (not to be confused with a JELLY plate)? According to Gelli Arts, a company that makes them, it’s a printing plate with the look and feel of gelatin, always ready for printing. easy to use, easy to clean, stores at room temperature, and totally non-toxic, for monoprinting without a press. This class for Adults (18+) introduces basic gelli plate techniques, including care and protection, with progressive instruction building on basics through the 4 hours. Lots of practice with foam stamps, stencils, masks, textures, and DIY embellishments will produce increasing competence in print making and color dabbling and layering.
Feel free to wear an apron (there will be lots and lots of paint), and bring a snack for our breaks. Later classes will focus on more advanced techniques and usage of gelli prints in art and crafts and collage. Many gelli plate users become crazed enthusiasts because it’s just SO MUCH FUN!
Unfortunately, commercial gelli plates are pretty expensive ($15-$50), so, since the NB Library is providing the plates for this class’s use, this is the perfect opportunity to give it a try before deciding to invest in one for yourself. Another Beginner class will be on Monday, July 15. If there is more demand we will offer more gelli plate classes and activities this fall
